Size 1. I've been told by several wise mommies that it's not really worth buying a ton of newborn size diapers, since most babies grow out of them so quickly. And, knowing my family history of babies, our little boy will probably be a pretty good size (my guess is around 8 pounds).

I found a pattern online for a chair sling http://crafts.sleepingbaby.net/chairseat.html that looks pretty easy. I haven't made it yet nor have I ever used one, so this is not a testimonial. If anyone reading this has used one, please let me know if it's worth it or not.

We visited my sister-in-law Tara and her family last week, and she generously gave us a HUGE bag of baby boy clothes and shoes, a baby swing, and a boppy pillow. Thanks Tara!

Okay, so maybe I'm not yet into the full-blown thralls of mommy nesting, but it's a start.

What else do I need to be doing now to be ready when the baby comes? Oh, the hype!

Christmas is almost here, and the gift I'm most anticipating is in a small, white envelope. Bryan and I went to the doctor's last week for an ultrasound to see if we are going to welcome a little girl or a little boy into our home next spring. It was rather hard not to peek as the ultrasound technician waved the magic wand over my baby and weird alien images appeared on the screen. Sorry, baby--they really weren't weird alien images. There were some definite human looking feet and arms and other body parts, but the technician had been carefully informed beforehand that we didn't want to find out the gender of the baby quite yet, so she wouldn't let us look whenever she was going into potentially revealing territory. She gave us the non-revealing pics of the little 'un to show to our adoring family and fans, and she said that the baby was very cute. (Aww...I bet she says that to all the parents, but it made me feel good.) She also said that the baby was very active and cooperative and so she was able to tell very quickly the gender. She claimed that there was no doubt about it; she could tell with 100% accuracy. All incriminating pics were placed into the aforementioned sealed white envelope to await a joyful opening on Christmas morn.

Let me know if I'm getting too excited about such a trivial thing. I'm a little giddy.

I'm betting on a boy.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://spiffyneat.blogspot.com/2009/12/xx-or-xy-oh-hype.html' title='XX or XY? Hope your Monday is goin' well. I'm feelin' kinda laid back and slang-y today, hope ya don't mind.

I noticed that some people DO check this blog occasionally, so I wanted to let you kindly folk know a little about my job, since you asked so nicely and since that is what takes up the bulk of my time these days. I work at a small (3 full-time, 10 part-time employees), non-profit company near my home (yeah for the 10 minute commute!) that helps people with disabilities to obtain employment. My official title there is Program and Services Director. As part of my job I travel all over the world, from London to Tokyo to Reykjavik to Sydney and back again. Wait. I mean I wish I got to do those things. Back to reality--I work in an office in West Valley and I oversee the operations of the company: supervising, hiring, accounting, payroll, training, marketing, and all that other one-man-band kind of stuff that they let you do in a small company. I do get to travel to exciting destinations in the lovely state of Utah, including but not limited to Ogden, St. George, and Provo. The job started out a little rough, but I do like it now (most of the time), especially since I just got an assistant to help me out in the office, so I have more time to devote to my golf lunches. I am currently looking to hire a few people as part-time job coaches--people who work directly with our clients to help them find jobs, write resumes, fill out applications, practice for interviews, and then learn the job skills they need to be successful once they obtain employment. It's a challenging but very rewarding job. If you know of anyone in the SLC area who might be interested, let me know...

Until next time, have a wonderful day! (week!) (month!) I never knew how incredibly talented and funny some of the people in my life are. Thanks to everyone who offers a glimpse into their lives through blogs. You rock.

So, it's 2009 already. Amazing! It seems like only yesterday that I was a freshman in college, and the year was 1995 and everyone was sporting claw bangs. I graduated college many years ago, but today is the first day of another semester at another college, where I am attempting to complete all of the prerequisite classes for P.A. school, or something like unto it. Sometimes I feel upset that I've wasted a goodly number of years doing things I wasn't really interested in (cough***window company***cough), but I'm really grateful for second (and third and so on)chances to try new things and to get things right. I'm taking Organic Chemistry labs I and II, and Genetics and Genetics lab so far. Hoping to add a few more classes soon. I've never been known for my lack of procrastination.

I was trying to post a picture, but for some reason it's not working. I'll get back to you soon.

Thanksgiving in September

So this is from last Thanksgiving, 2007. Who needs sleep?

I finished my organic chemistry take-home exam just in the nick of time today, after having stayed up nearly all night to finish it. Wow, it's been a long time since I tried to pull an all-nighter, and I have to say that these old bones don't take it as well as they used to. On the other hand, there is something intriguing in being awake while most of the city sleeps. Kind of like you have a secret identity or something. I don't know what I'm saying. One hour of sleep in a night'll do that to you.

School is going well, my last final is this Wednesday. Then I'm off to San Diego to visit my sister Alicia, who lives there all the time, lucky girl. Though with the recent deadly shark attack that happened in San Diego, maybe I'm glad that I live in a place where the most deadly thing to contend with in the water here are the brine shrimp and the lake stink.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://spiffyneat.blogspot.com/2008/04/sleep-who-needs-sleep.html' title='Sleep? It's been a few weeks since I've posted anything, but I think the only people who ever check this site are members of my family so I'm probably safe. My life has changed pretty drastically since I last wrote: I quit my dreaded job at the window factory, I sold my house and moved to a little apartment in West Jordan, where I now work with troubled teeenagers, and I started going back to school to complete some prerequisites for P.A. school. I quite like my new job, and I am working with my sister and brother-in-law so I get to see one of my adorable nieces almost every day. I only wish I could see all my nieces and nephews as often! I work in the afternoons, which leaves mornings free for school. I am taking Organic Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Biology lab. I am really enjoying school for the most part. It's really too bad I can't make a living going to school. I don't have a lot of free time between working and school, but I like the feeling of accomplishing things that make a difference, both in the lives of others and in my own life. I'd like to find a way to be a little more balanced as far as exercising is concerned, so I plan to particpate in a triathalon sponsored by my work in May. This could get a little scary...

Life is good

Good morning all! I really didn't mean to set a pessimistic tone with the first entry on my shiny new blog, so today I will be happy. Life is good. Work is awful, but it could be worse. I could be working for $1.60 a day picking coffee beans under the relentless equatorial sun. I could be standing on a street corner all day holding a 5 buck pizza sign and wearing a humiliating costume of some sort. I could be a crash test dummy. See, my life is good.
