Mandy's Monday

Hey y'all. Hope your Monday is goin' well. I'm feelin' kinda laid back and slang-y today, hope ya don't mind.

I noticed that some people DO check this blog occasionally, so I wanted to let you kindly folk know a little about my job, since you asked so nicely and since that is what takes up the bulk of my time these days. I work at a small (3 full-time, 10 part-time employees), non-profit company near my home (yeah for the 10 minute commute!) that helps people with disabilities to obtain employment. My official title there is Program and Services Director. As part of my job I travel all over the world, from London to Tokyo to Reykjavik to Sydney and back again. Wait. I mean I wish I got to do those things. Back to reality--I work in an office in West Valley and I oversee the operations of the company: supervising, hiring, accounting, payroll, training, marketing, and all that other one-man-band kind of stuff that they let you do in a small company. I do get to travel to exciting destinations in the lovely state of Utah, including but not limited to Ogden, St. George, and Provo. The job started out a little rough, but I do like it now (most of the time), especially since I just got an assistant to help me out in the office, so I have more time to devote to my golf lunches. I am currently looking to hire a few people as part-time job coaches--people who work directly with our clients to help them find jobs, write resumes, fill out applications, practice for interviews, and then learn the job skills they need to be successful once they obtain employment. It's a challenging but very rewarding job. If you know of anyone in the SLC area who might be interested, let me know...

Until next time, have a wonderful day! (week!) (month!) (year!?!)

My new job!!!

Hello everyone. I have a NEW JOB. This is very exciting, as I have been without a job for quite some time--longer than I ever expected.

More to follow; lunchtime is almost over, and I have a lot to get done. Thanks to those 2 people who still occasionally check this mostly-dead blog o' mine. Cheers!

Twenty-two days and counting...!

Hello world! A quick update on my life since my last post, over 3 months ago(?!) I am engaged to a wonderful guy named Bryan, and we are getting married in the Salt Lake Temple on May 8th, just a little over 3 weeks from now. I'm still working at West Ridge Academy for a few more weeks, and I am still going to school--my last final is three days before the wedding day. We are sending out announcements this week. Here's a pic from our engagement photo shoot. See you in three weeks!

Feelin' fine in 2009

I've just spent the past hour and a half reading various family and friend blogs, and I am feeling really inspired at the moment. I never knew how incredibly talented and funny some of the people in my life are. Thanks to everyone who offers a glimpse into their lives through blogs. You rock.

So, it's 2009 already. Amazing! It seems like only yesterday that I was a freshman in college, and the year was 1995 and everyone was sporting claw bangs. I graduated college many years ago, but today is the first day of another semester at another college, where I am attempting to complete all of the prerequisite classes for P.A. school, or something like unto it. Sometimes I feel upset that I've wasted a goodly number of years doing things I wasn't really interested in (cough***window company***cough), but I'm really grateful for second (and third and so on)chances to try new things and to get things right. I'm taking Organic Chemistry labs I and II, and Genetics and Genetics lab so far. Hoping to add a few more classes soon. I've never been known for my lack of procrastination.

I was trying to post a picture, but for some reason it's not working. I'll get back to you soon.

Thanksgiving in September

So this is from last Thanksgiving, 2007. Thought you might like to see some of my family.

Most Boring Blog EVER!

To all of you who eagerly look at my blog every day in hopes that maybe TODAY will be the day that Mandy FINALLY posts something new--well, today is your lucky day! Wow, it has been a while, so for your patience and patronage, I offer you my very first BLOG PICTURE. Enjoy!

This is a picture of me and my friends at Cedar Breaks National Monument in Utah, aka "the mini Grand Canyon". It was a really cool place where bristlecone pine trees grow.

Sleep? Who needs sleep?

I finished my organic chemistry take-home exam just in the nick of time today, after having stayed up nearly all night to finish it. Wow, it's been a long time since I tried to pull an all-nighter, and I have to say that these old bones don't take it as well as they used to. On the other hand, there is something intriguing in being awake while most of the city sleeps. Kind of like you have a secret identity or something. I don't know what I'm saying. One hour of sleep in a night'll do that to you.

School is going well, my last final is this Wednesday. Then I'm off to San Diego to visit my sister Alicia, who lives there all the time, lucky girl. Though with the recent deadly shark attack that happened in San Diego, maybe I'm glad that I live in a place where the most deadly thing to contend with in the water here are the brine shrimp and the lake stink.
